How Many Undefended Punches Til a Ref Stops a Fight? Looks like 9!
We already know the answer to the age-old question, ‘How many licks to the center of a tootsie roll, tootsie pop?’ It’s 3. The owl in the commercial answered it for us. But how many undefended punches to the face before a ref stops a fight? Let’s look in on the end of the King Mo vs. Lorenz Larkin fight from Strikeforce last Saturday night.
Referee Kim Winslow lets nine bombs connect with the grill of Lorenz Larkin before she finally steps in and calls a halt to the bout. King Mo was pissed after the fight, telling MMA Junkie what he thinks of Winslow.
“I’m going to put it like this: The commission, they need to do something with [Winslow],” Lawal said. “Let her take a fight or something and give her a bad ref.”
“Let [Winslow] fight ‘Cyborg,’ and let’s do a late stoppage with her,” Lawal said. “I watched her almost get Jan Finney killed by ‘Cyborg.’ I think maybe the tables need to be turned. Put me in there as a ref, and I’ll just do a terrible job like her.”
Well, Cyborg has her own problems after testing positive for steroids, but the point is made. Hopefully Larkin will be OK, and Winslow won’t get anyone seriously injured in the cage.
Gina Carano’s Hot GQ Shoot
The lovely and talented Gina Carano has a new movie coming out on January 20th called “Haywire”, an action/thriller from director Steven Soderbergh.
She’s been all over the place promoting the new film, taking in premieres and even dancing for you at UFC 141. She even did this hot shoot for GQ. Check out the Gina Carano pics and the video.
Now we just need to get Gina back in the cage. She says that will happen sometime in 2012, and we hope that’s the case. Photoshoots and movies are cool, but we want to see her fight.
Wheelchair Man Halts Robber with MMA
I can’t figure out what’s more amazing in this video. Is it the wheelchair-bound man that uses some Jiu Jitsu choke holds to thwart a would-be robber — or — is it the guy that actually picked up the ‘Slippery When Wet‘ sign to use as a weapon?
Why would you grab that? Go grab a can of corn off the shelf and whip it at his head. Anyway, here’s to the man that actually did something. We salute his bravery and his technique.
His Eye is Having a Baby [Pic]
Thank goodness that this fighter didn’t get hit one more time. It would have been like Gallagher smashing a watermelon with his sledgehammer. Is that too old of a reference? Is Gallagher still alive? I’m going to look that up. Anyway, it looks like this guy’s eye is having a baby or he’s starring in the next “Alien” movie.
MMA Fighter Charged with Child Abuse After Boxing with Son
Former UFC light heavyweight fighter Houston Alexander found himself in trouble with the law after some rather unique parenting decisions. He thought that his son lied to him, so he made the 16- year old put on boxing gloves and box with him.
KMTV in Omaha reported that police ticketed Alexander for child abuse after the incident.
“Police reports say officers were called to a home near 44th and Maple for a domestic disturbance. The older Alexander told them he was having trouble with his teen son, who was “having explicit sexual contact on Facebook with some unknown females.” The 16-year-old reportedly lied and “made him very upset.”
According to police reports, “Alexander then retrieved boxing gloves and told his son, ‘If you are going to lie to me, then we are going to box.’” The two reportedly boxed in the basement. Officers describe the teen as having a “slight bloody nose and pain to his right side.”
Alexander was cited for misdemeanor child abuse.”
His son is lucky that his injuries weren’t severe. Alexander is a knockout artist that has tremendous power in his hands. Thankfully it seems from the report that he didn’t use it all.
Alexander is a single parent of six children, so I can understand using some different parenting techniques. But when you are a pro fighter, it might be best to skip the striking session. But here’s guessing the kid got all lippy with his dad and probably said he could take him. However it went down, it turned out bad for all of them.

The lovely and talented Gina Carano is out and about promoting her new film “Haywire”, directed by Steven Soderbergh. She took in the fights at UFC 141 on Friday night, even doing a little dance for you.
Carano says she will fight again in 2012, but she looked far from being ready to step into the cage and throw down.
