UFC Fighter Cut for Tweeting Joke from “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”
When the UFC encouraged fighters to start using social media to its fullest extent — even issuing monetary rewards for the best users — you knew someone was bound to make a critical error.
UFC president Dana White has cut Miguel Torres, the former WEC bantamweight champion, for a tweet about rape. But here’s the kicker: the tweet was actually a line from FX’s “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”.
Torres tweeted a line from the episode “The Gang Solves the Gas Crisis”, which was the second episode of season 4. Torres was watching the show when he tweeted the line, “If a rape van was called a surprise van more women wouldn’t mind going for rides in them.Everyone like surprises.”
Dana White told SI.com, “This morning I’m on [Michael] Landsburg’s show, up here in Canada, and he hits me with the quote of what he tweeted. Now there’s no explanation for that. There’s absolutely nothing I could say to make any sense of that. And the fact that he even thinks that’s funny or that’s a joke, it disturbs me. It bothers me. Again, you’re dealing with a guy that’s a smart guy, that owns his own business, that’s been one of the top fighters in the world forever. And I cut him today. He’s no longer with the UFC.”
White is apparently drawing a line when it comes to what UFC fighters can say. Forrest Griffin made a rape tweet recently, Rashad Evans made a Jerry Sandusky joke and even White himself has been chastized for using homophobic slurs.
But it’s Torres that is the first to go, and it’s for quoting one of the most popular TV shows in the last 10 years, from one of the UFC’s new partners.

Let’s throw his butt in a rape van and see if he enjoys the ride..what people say is who they are 90xs out of 100.

I have loved UFC and now I can no longer watch or buy any, because as a man of principal I can not support an egomaniac who demands absolute suffrage from men who he can not equal. Its time for mixed martial arts to become organized under a standard without one all powerful asshole. Over a joke a mans life is thrown away.

actually glad to see something like this, if dude was in the nfl he could actually be accused and found guilty of rape and be back on the sidelines
