Why Brittney Palmer Is The Hottest Ring Girl in MMA

April 29, 2011 – Dr. T

Brittney Palmer is making a very, very strong argument for hottest ring girl in the UFC. Scratch that, she is making an argument for hottest girl even remotely related to MMA. Arianny Celeste has already posed for Playboy, so there really isn’t any more mystery left to her (with that being said, she is still one of the hottest women associated with MMA). Brittney Palmer, however, is still keeping everyone guessing, and photo shoots like the one she just recently did for Fighters Only Magazine just raises her hotness bar even more. Take a look and see for yourself. Don’t agree? Let us know in the comments section.

UFC Launches $129,000 Community Initiative

April 1, 2011 – Dr. T

The UFC today launched a new initiative aimed at helping communities across Canada. The UFC Community Works program seeks to make meaningful contributions to communities in need from coast to coast with a particular focus on at-risk youth.

UFC Director of Canadian Operations Tom Wright and Ontario native and UFC fighter Sam Stout made the announcement today at Toronto’s Cabbagetown Youth Centre (CYC). Together, they announced a $129,000 commitment to Canadian communities over the next 12 months. The CYC will be the first to benefit from this initiative, receiving a grant to purchase much-needed mixed martial arts (MMA) equipment as part of their programming that maintains a specific focus on at-risk children and youth.

Just as the sport of MMA can be instrumental in the promotion of such important life skills as discipline, respect and teamwork, UFC Community Works will tie itself to communities and/or organizations that lack opportunity and that can benefit from a helping hand.

“We made a public commitment to give back when we first opened our Canadian office,” said Tom Wright. “The UFC has had such amazing support from all across Canada and we’re proud to introduce this program. UFC Community Works is going to be a catalyst to promoting good works in good communities.”

UFC Community Works will develop its mandate and reach out to communities and organizations in need, particularly where UFC events are held. The program can tailor its support to the needs of the community and adapt as priorities evolve. It can affect positive change through a number of means, which include hosting speaker series and MMA training sessions with at-risk youths, donating funds or equipment to a community gym or training centre, building partnerships and/or raising awareness about important social issues.

Why Diaz Is Moving To Boxing

April 24, 2011 – Dr. T

It’s no secret that Nick Diaz is getting ready for a transition to professional boxing, and it’s also no surprise as to why he is doing it. Diaz probably took a look at the glamorous lifestyle of Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr. and didn’t take long to make up his mind. Don’t take our word for it, see for yourselves.

UFC 129 Breakdown

UFC 129: GSP vs. Shields

UFC 129: GSP vs. Shields

April 24, 2011 – Dr. T

UFC 129 is built to be one of the best cards in UFC history, not to mention its record breaking attendance numbers. It’ll be a showcase of Canada vs. USA fighters (with the exception of Couture vs. Machida and Matyushenko vs. Brilz), with every fight on the card a candidate for fight of the night. Here’s the line-up with a breakdown of the main fights.

Main Card

Welterweight Championship bout: Georges St-Pierre vs. Jake Shields

GSP truly has his toughest fight ahead of him going up against a Jiu-Jitsu submission specialist and heavier Jake Shields. Look for GSP to try and finish the fight every chance he gets, but expect this one to go the distance as well, with Shields breaking GSP’s record of 28 straight rounds won.

Featherweight Championship bout: José Aldo vs. Mark Hominick

Jose Also is the UFC’s Featherweight champion for a reason, and Mark Hominick will have a very tough time trying to change that. Aldo is as explosive as they come and once he lands multiple strikes, the fight will be all but done. Hominick is one of many representing Canada on this card so look for him to throw everything in his arsenal at Aldo. However, that may not be enough for Homonick, look for Aldo to end this fight in the second round (a generous prediction on my part).

Light Heavyweight bout: Randy Couture vs. Lyoto Machida

Randy Couture has stated that win or lose this will be his last fight in MMA and he has no intentions to go out a loser. At the ripe young age of 47, Randy Couture seems to be in the best shape of his life, considering he’s currently riding a 3 fight win streak, and Lyoto Machida will have yet another hard challenge in front of him. Machida seems to have been looking past Couture and is already requesting a re-match with Rampage Jackson, however, Machida could very well lose to Couture in this fight and needs to realize this very quickly. This fight will no doubt go the distance, with Randy Couture handing Lyoto Machida his third straight loss.

Lightweight bout: Mark Bocek vs. Ben Henderson

Ben Henderson is coming off a tough hard fought decision loss to Anthony Pettis, which will no doubt be a candidate for fight of the year (just search for the Showtime Kick). With that being said, Henderson is making his UFC debut against submission ace Mark Bocek, and he will be giving Bocek everything he has to ensure his debut is a successful one. This one will end in the 2nd round by submission, with Henderson arising victorious.

Light Heavyweight bout: Vladimir Matyushenko vs. Jason Brilz

This one will no doubt be a slug fest, with both fighters having a lot to prove. Jason Brilz is coming off a controversial decision loss to Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, while Vladimir Matyushenko tries to go for 2 straight wins. This one just may go the distance with both fighters going back and forth for the entirety of the fight. Possible fight of the night candidate with Jason Brilz coming out on top.

Preliminary Card (Spike TV at 8 PM EST)

Welterweight bout: Nate Diaz vs. Rory MacDonald

This one has a lot at stake with both fighters coming off tough losses in their careers. Nate Diaz is determined to get back to his winning ways, while Rory McDonald wants to put together another 10 fight win streak. McDonald will outwrestle Diaz for a unanimous decision victory, while Diaz will be extremely upset at losing a 2nd straight fight to being outwrestled.

Welterweight bout: Sean Pierson vs. Jake Ellenberger

Sean Pierson has proven to be a very exciting fighter and this fight will not disappoint fight fans. Both Pierson and Jake Ellenberger are looking to extend their respective win streaks with both fighters comfortable keeping this fight standing. This fight is another candidate for fight of the night, with Sean Pierson being too much for Ellenberger to handle. Look for this one to end in the third with Pierson winning by TKO.

Preliminary Card (Facebook at 6 PM EST)

Also on the card (and free on Facebook starting at 6 PM EST) is a showcase of Canada vs. USA fights, here’s the line-up:

Welterweight bout: CAN Claude Patrick vs. USA Daniel Roberts
Bantamweight bout: CAN Ivan Menjivar vs. USA Charlie Valencia
Middleweight bout: CAN Jason MacDonald vs. USA Ryan Jensen
Lightweight bout: CAN John Makdessi vs. USA Kyle Watson
Featherweight bout: CAN Yves Jabouin vs. USA Pablo Garza

Bellator Ring Girls: Jade Bryce

April 16, 2011 – Dr. T

Jade Bryce has given Bellator fans another reason to cheer (besides cheering for their favourite fighters of course). At the same time, Bryce has also given fight fans an additional reason to tune in to Bellator Season 4 when it airs on MTV 2. Aside from the fact that she is absolutely stunning, there isn’t much more we need to say about Jade Bryce (you can get her profile over here ), instead we’ll just let her pictures do the talking (a few more “revealing” shots are located here ).

Nick Diaz Headed To Boxing

Nick Diaz vs Paul Daley

Nick Diaz vs Paul Daley

April 15, 2011 – Dr. T

After defending his Strikeforce Welterweight championship and taking out Paul Daley in exciting fashion, Nick Diaz is ready to make the move to professional boxing. According to Diaz, there is no one worthy enough left for him to fight in Strikeforce, and since he is still under the Strikeforce banner, he cannot move over to the UFC in order to face tougher competition. Diaz has already signed a contract to fight former boxing champion Fernando Vargas and is just awaiting a signature from Vargas to make the fight official. In a recent interview, Diaz wasn’t shy about stating that he is “the most overworked, overtrained and underpaid” fighter out there and a move to boxing would net him the money he feels he deserves.

A fight between Diaz and Vargas is still not 100%, as there are a couple of factors keeping it from a done deal, but it is possibility. Do you think Diaz should make the move to boxing, or should he remain in the sport that made him a star? Let us know what you think in the comments section.
