MMA Fighter Rankings: Featherweight
The Featherweight division has always been home to some of the most exciting fights in combat sports and WEC/ UFC Featherweight champ Jose Aldo has yet to disappoint fight fans in that regard. Riding an 11 fight win streak along with 2 successful title defences, Aldo comfortably sits atop this division without a clear contender in sight. The list was put together by Ray Ang of RantMMA.com . Check back for the remaining top 10 lists on Bantamweight and Flyweight. As always, voice your opinion in the comments section and let us know what you think about the rankings.
10. Joe Warren
Warren moves into the top 10 with a win over Joe Soto at Bellator 27 to win the Bellator title.
9. Bibiano “The Flash” Fernandes
The DREAM champion mainstay has beaten Joachim Hansen, Hiroyuki Takaya, and Joe Warren in his last 3 outings.
8. Diego “The Gun” Nunes
Nunes gets a chance to vault into the elite with a match against Mike Thomas Brown on New Years Day.
7. Michihiro Omigawa
It’s rumoured that Omigawa will be coming to the WEC/UFC soon. It will be great to see him against some of the elite talents at 145 on North American soil.
6. Hatsu Hioki
He’s the Shooto 143-pound champion and also fights for Sengoku. Hioki is someone that could give Aldo some problems during a fight.
5. Josh “The Fluke” Grispi
Grispi moved into title contention with a 4-0 record in the WEC. He’ll face Jose Aldo for the belt on New Years Day.
4. Marlon Sandro
Is Sandro the best fighter Jose Aldo will never fight? We’ll never know for sure, but his record is pretty impressive. With only 1 loss to Michihiro Omigawa, he is current King of Pancrase and Sengoku champion.
3. Mike Thomas Brown
Brown was demoted to the undercard at the WEC’s last event. Don’t let that fool you however, he’s still a top guy in the division, dominating Urijah Faber twice when Faber was still the division’s golden boy.
2. Manny “The Anvil” Gamburyan
After beating Mike Thomas Brown, Gamburyan was stopped by Jose Aldo.
1. Jose “Junior” Aldo
Aldo is showing that he is a dominating force on par with GSP and Anderson Silva. In his 2nd title defence, he demolished Manny Gamuryan. Aldo was recently presented with the UFC Featherweight championship as a result of the formal absorption of the WEC into the UFC. He might be holding that belt for a long time.
