The Most Creative KO in MMA History

December 11, 2009 – Dr. Americana

This is one of the best knockouts in MMA history, certainly the most creative. How he pulled this off is anyone’s guess. This happened at Xplosion 17, which is probably what happened to that guy’s nose.

Fedor Loves Punching You, Eating Snickers

December 8, 2009 – Dr. Americana

Spike just released ratings from the Ultimate Finale broadcast. 5.2 million watched Houston Alexander do the dosey-do-round-you-go against Kimbo Slice. That’s significantly more than the audience that watched Fedor on CBS, a network that is readily more available than Spike. That’s kind of sad.

But our hero Fedor is a marketing machine around the rest of the world. Here’s his new commercial for Snickers from Korea. It’s funny and he does a nice job acting.

Karate Ref Nearly Kills Fighter

December 7, 2009 – Dr. Americana

This is an oldie (but not a goodie) that recently resurfaced on the UG. This guy is the antithesis of what martial arts is all about. It’s also worth noting that his student is the fighter in white.

Roy Nelson Wins The Ultimate Fighter

December 5, 2009 – Dr. Americana

The UFC crowned its latest winner of “The Ultimate Fighter” as Roy Nelson knocked out Brendan Schaub in the season 10 finale in Las Vegas. Nelson wins the six-figure contract with a huge right hand that knocked Schaub to the mat, where Nelson finished him.

Earlier in the evening, Kimbo Slice won his first official UFC bout with a decision victory over Houston Alexander. Jon Jones destroyed Matt Hamill, but was disqualified due to illegal elbow strikes. Matt Mitrione knocked out Marcus Jones in the battle of 2 former NFL players. James McSweeney beat Darrill Schoonover via TKO after battering him in the 3rd round.

UFC president Dana White also announced that Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz will be the coaches for season 11 of “The Ultimate Fighter”. The two will fight after the season. Tito will try to avenge his two losses to Liddell at UFC 47 and UFC 66.

Kimbo Slice Wins First Official UFC Fight

December 5, 2009 – Dr. Americana

In his first official UFC fight, Kimbo Slice pulled out a unanimous decision over Houston Alexander.

The first minute and more was spent with both combatants just circling the cage without throwing strikes. “This is just getting weird now”, said Joe Rogan. The boos came in earnest soon after.

Finally Alexander and Slice started to exchange with 2 minutes left in round one. Still, it was perhaps the most boring first round in UFC history. “A non-eventful 1st round”, said Mike Goldberg. Truer words were never spoken.

Round 2 started the same. Rogan said, “Houston Alexander is just circling like a merry-go-round.” More boos followed. Referee Steve Mazzagatti uttered countless calls to action. “Let’s work, let’s do something here.”, said Mazzagatti.

Then with 3 minutes left, Slice took down Alexander and got to mount. But it didn’t last as Alexander bucked out quickly. Still, Slice was awake now and pursued Alexander with fury. He slammed Alexander to the mat and hit him with a barrage of shots, surprisingly beating Alexander with the ground game. Slice almost had Alexander finished, but he couldn’t seal the deal. The round ended, though clearly going to Slice.

In the 3rd round we finally saw the true Alexander as he started to throw his hands a bit. Kimbo countered. Action then slowed with both fighters tiring. Alexander landed a vicious leg kick that felled Slice. But Slice was able to get up and take Alexander down again. Not much happened and Mazzagatti stood them up. It didn’t matter. Action was slow and the round ended. Amazingly, the fight went to a decision.

Though it wasn’t pretty, Kimbo Slice defeated Houston Alexander.

Rampage Jackson Will Return to the UFC

December 4, 2009 – Dr. Americana

B.A. Baracus aka Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, will return to the UFC to finish his contract. He posted it on his website:

Now, I wanted to let my fans know that I’m going to come back to the UFC & finish my contract. Not because the haters are talking shit about me being scared of Rashad or Titties or anybody else. I’m coming back for my fans & to shut Rashad’s mouth up & shut Dana’s mouth up. Then after that I’m going back to doing movies & I might do a boxing match once a year just to stay in shape. Hate on dis!

So MMA fans will get to see Rashad and Rampage do battle. That’s great news. Rampage also said that TV is just entertainment:

(Haters) still haven’t realized yet that the TV show is just a TV show. I did my job by entertaining people and if you ever paid any attention to me, that’s what I’m known for doing.

My advice, go into sitcoms then. The Ultimate Fighter is a reality show. You are there to entertain, but also to help a team of fighters looking to fulfill their dreams. It’s not about putting on an act. Save that for the crappy B-Movies.

UFC Ultimate Fighter Finale Card Set

December 3, 2009 – Dr. Americana

James McSweeney got a bit too cute and Roy Nelson took him down and pounded him out. Brendan Schaub landed a huge shot on Marcus Jones and finished him with some brutal head strikes. So the stage is set. It’s former NFL player Brendan Schaub against former IFL champ Roy “Big Country” Nelson.

Here is the entire card for The Ultimate Fighter Finale, Saturday, December 5th on Spike.
