Massachussetts Legislates MMA
If Kenny Florian comes out of his fight with Clay Guida sans injuries, it looks as if his next bout will be in his hometown sometime in 2010.
Massachusetts governor Deval Patrick signed MMA legislation into law on Monday, and now the UFC card can have an event in Boston.
UFC president Dana White: “I am so pumped that the UFC is finally coming to Massachusetts. I guarantee that we will put on an incredible UFC event for Boston in 2010.”
“We’re all just thrilled here. High fives all around,” said Marc Ratner, the UFC’s vice president of regulatory affairs.
“It’s a great day for not just (the UFC), but for the sport,” he said. “MMA has been done in Massachusetts as it has everywhere else in the country, but now its legal. It’s so important to have insurance and medicals. It’s so important for the fighters and it makes things so much safer.”
So one more state down. MMA will eventually be legislated in all 50 states. The money is just too big for states to say no.
