Sometimes an MMA fight can end without either combatant getting hurt. You could get a quick sub where one of the fighters has to tap. Or even a flash knockout where the fight is called but the fighter is fine just seconds later.
But other times it’s two warriors going to war. Elbows can gash skin down to the bone. Fights can get very bloody. Here are 11 of the biggest gashes and blood lettings and from MMA. That’s right — this one goes up to 11.
1. Joe “Daddy” Stevenson
No, Stevenson was not attacked by PETA for wearing fur. He was just in an all-out brawl.

2. Drew Montgomery
Makes sense that Montgomery fights for the Carnage Fight Team.

3. Abe Wagner
This is from the current season of “The Ultimate Fighter”. I wonder if he still wants that UFC contract?

4. Fedor Emelianenko
No, not even the greatest mixed martial artist of our era is exempt from massive gashes. Here, doctors check out Fedor’s new coin purse.

5. Stefan Struve
Here Struve seems to be in control of everything in the fight, except his leaky faucet.

6. Chris Lytle
“Lights Out” never fails to put on an entertaining fight for the fans. But if he were to lose any more blood in this pic, it would be lights out for him.

7. Kazushi Sakuraba
That eye gets any more swollen and Sakuraba is going to float away. Or explode.

8. Marvin Eastman
This was the result of some Vitor Belfort knees and strikes. I would say a few too many of them.

9. Cub Swanson
“Cub” looks like he was attacked by a bear. A bear named Jose Aldo. I think the cutman realizes his little swab is useless.

10. Jared Hess
Read “Round 3″ of the bout description here. Jared Hess is a warrior.

11. Kalib Starnes
The quote: “The doctor spread the cut open with his thumbs and said, “I can see his skull, I’m stopping it’.” And Starnes wanted to continue the fight. Wow.

HOLY SH*T!!!

I’m guessing this was the last time Starnes wanted to fight. After this I guess he took up running instead.

“I” clicked on it?
Why yes Captain obvious I did, even though it was sent to me as a link in which I did not read the full URL of, but what exactly does that have to do with what I was pointing out? Maybe you can enlighten me and clear your statement up a snippit.
“I “have no issues with a blood bath actually, sometimes I think it’s a little unsanitary and a bit disgusting when another fighter’s blood get’s into your mouth or glands of sorts …but all-in-all I love the sport bloody or not. What I was trying to say in my comment, which you obviously didn’t understand, was this is a dumb-ass idea when MMA is trying to get legalized in plenty of other places and is the exact reason some people have to travel to enjoy a good live showing.

kid crackle– great nickname by the way– the people that know about it could give a crap about blood. They don’t see red; only green. It isn’t sanctioned in all these different states now because they’ve had a change of heart. It’s sanctioned cuz they get paid.
I understood your comment just fine. As it turns out, you were the one with the dumb-ass idea. You couldn’t be more wrong.
I do appreciate you dropping by though.

This is insane. It makes me sick how these people beat the hell out of each other, and for what? fame? It’s simply retarded.
[Reply]
I understand if this was meant as a tribute to the toughness or the determination of the aforementioned fighters, but this sort of thing really does not show the sport in a particularly good light to the general populace.

Pek: It is what it is. This sometimes happens in the fights. It does not happen all the time. If people are going to judge something by one blog post, then it’s all on them. They are missing out.
